After breakfast you proceed on a full day city tour of Mombasa. Mombasa Town is the second largest city in Kenya ,situated on the eastern coast bordering the Indian Ocean. The coastal town is heavily influence by the Arabs who have settled there for some centuries. The town boasts of architecture such as curved doors, customs, languages and culture adapted from the Arabs. Even Swahili language is a cross between Arabic and African native languages. Old Town is where you will best experience the exquisite beauty of this ancient port. Fort Jesus – a Portuguese fort built in 1593 in Mombasa Island and now a UNESCO World Heritage Centre and Mombasa top tourist destination. The ancient but preserved Portuguese architecture is breathtaking considering the fort’s outline resembles a human figure – as viewed from air. A conservation lab and a primate research center and a museum are all hosted in the fort situated above a coral ridge near the harbour. The history behind this fort is truly intriguing – from a fort to a prison to a museum. Be lost in time in this coastal excursion in a cosmopolitan, commercial and cultural town.
After lunch at Mbobolulu, you head for Haller Park. Named after Dr. René Haller who in 1971 began transforming Haller Park by increasing the mineral content in the soil from the waste land which is next to the Bamburi Cement Factory. The unique and globally recognized park, started in 1954 as a cement factory, is home to various bush pigs, marsh mongoose, serval cat, duiker, bushbuck, oryx, elands, waterbucks, zebras, cape buffaloes, giraffes, hippos and various animals. Remember to say hi to Sally and Potty, two of the friendliest hippos in the park.

Larger mammals are in abundance – hirola, gerenuk, lesser kudu, waterbucks, crocodile, hippo, elephant, leopard, lion, buffalo and rhino. It’s not all about animals as major physical attractions abound. From Galana River to the Lugard Falls and their weirdly eroded rocks and the Mudanda Rock next to Aruba Natural Dam- an elephants haven. This park is also a birdwatcher’s paradise and the range of flora is truly captivating: vast acacia dot the woodland and grassland connected to the scrubland through riverine vegetation. Rocky ridges in the park are a major geo-physical attraction added together to the Mzima Springs, the source of Mombasa’s water. These springs are recharged daily with hundreds of millions of litres of crystal clear water by underground streams emanating from Chyulu Hills.
